Truckee, CA (July 16, 2024) – Vibrant Planet, the science and technology platform creating a common operating picture for achieving wildfire and climate resilience, today announces the appointment of Dan Myers to its leadership team. Joining as the company’s chief operating officer (COO), Myers brings important startup operator experience from Stripe.

During his seven-year tenure at Stripe, which included serving as the company’s head of business operations, Myers oversaw the growth of its payment platform to serve customers big and small across numerous business verticals. In his new role, he’ll lead similar efforts to grow Vibrant Planet across new sectors beyond land management.

To more deeply analyze wildfire risk across landscapes and communities, Vibrant Planet leverages both applied AI technology and applied science, helping land managers take action and keep communities and nature intact. AI, combined with lidar, satellite, and other imagery, enables Vibrant Planet to provide a current, high-resolution view of wildfire risk and ecosystem health to land managers. This data is also used by fire districts and counties developing community wildfire protection plans (CWPPs) to mitigate risk in and surrounding communities, ensure that evacuation routes are safe, and improve firefighter operating space to defend communities. Historically, CWPPs were updated every 5 years through manual processes, but, with today’s rapidly changing risk factors, increasing numbers of communities want living CWPPs that can be updated as needed. Vibrant Planet enables them to adaptively manage their plans through an annual subscription.

Myers will work with the rest of the Vibrant Planet leadership team to set the company up for success in its new community resilience offering in addition to future customer verticals while driving key business outcomes.

“The increasing severity of wildfires and other climate driven risks are beginning to touch every aspect of our lives. We believe our cloud-based, data-driven system is a critical tool to help communities, and businesses within those communities, accurately understand the risk of wildfire and climate risk, and most importantly, rapidly coordinate actions to mitigate that risk,” said Allison Wolff, CEO and co-founder of Vibrant Planet. “Given the success of Stripe today and the role Dan played in growing that business, we know he is the right leader to help us make smart decisions as we begin to bring our wildfire and nature resilience platform to new markets.”

“I greatly value my past experiences, but I want the next phase of my career to be focused on solutions for the climate crisis. Living in California, I have experienced the impacts of wildfire firsthand and I love Vibrant Planet’s mission to use technology to boost knowledge and enable urgent action,” said Dan Myers, COO at Vibrant Planet. “I’m ready for this next chapter and am grateful to work alongside Allison and her team to take Vibrant Planet to the next level.”

Earthshot Ventures, a climate-focused venture capital firm and an early investor in Vibrant Planet, introduced the Vibrant Planet team to Dan Myers through its Executive in Residence (EiR) program. The EiR program is designed to bring skilled operators closer to Earthshot Ventures’ portfolio. Myers was also part of Terra.do’s 12-week climate education boot camp that covers the science, technology, policy, economics and business behind climate change.

“We’re thrilled to see Dan Myers join the rest of the brilliant team at Vibrant Planet. Our team at Earthshot Ventures has invested in over 200 companies over the last 15 years, and one of our key findings is that it’s all about people. We are thrilled when the right people with the right expertise join a startup at the right moment in time. It is truly transformational,” said Mike Jackson, managing partner at Earthshot Ventures.
