We are a team of applied scientists, land managers, technologists and policy leaders working to foster wildfire and climate resilient communities and ecosystems.

We believe we can achieve vibrant landscapes, clean water, abundant biodiversity and safer communities by providing a common operating picture that helps teams and leaders build enduring resilience.

As a public benefit corporation (PBC), delivering positive social and environmental impact is core to our mission.

Part of our public benefit is making novel data products available for scientific and educational pursuits. Learn more at the Vibrant Planet Data Commons.

Our origin

United by personal experiences with wildfire and climate impacts, a core team came together from radically different backgrounds across science, remote sensing, land management and Silicon Valley tech companies like Netflix and Meta to build a platform designed to bring new levels of transparency and efficiency to wildfire and climate risk mitigation planning, and create a learning system where monitored outcomes can feed into adaptive approaches to managing risk and ecosystem enhancements.

Initially launched as a nonprofit in 2018, Vibrant Planet's mission was to aggregate best-in-class science, contextualized at local, state, and national scales for critical decision making about where collective action can most effectively buy down risk across the community-wildland spectrum to keep communities and critical ecosystems intact. Recognizing the urgency of the wildfire and climate crisis, and the need for an accelerated platform build and enduring business model, we spun a public benefit corporation (PBC) out of the nonprofit, creating a nonprofit-public benefit partnership. Vibrant Planet, the PBC, builds advanced risk monitoring and decision support applications, built on a powerful data and modeling infrastructure that assembles thousands of data sets, runs millions of simulations, and packages land management insights for decision makers.

The nonprofit refocused to become the Vibrant Planet Data Commons, dedicated to commissioning and hosting open scientific research for educational and academic purposes. Vibrant Planet PBC filled one critical data gap: a foundational model that maps vegetation structure, canopy height model, and other vegetation characteristics. This is the foundation upon which we curate and operationalize a broad array of top notch science and data.

In 2023, Vibrant Planet merged with Pyrologix, the industry leader in wildfire risk modeling. With Pyrologix’s wildfire science capabilities, and Vibrant Planet’s decision support and monitoring capabilities, we are able to provide actionable, quantifiable wildfire risk management solutions for fire districts, counties, utilities, natural resource managers, and the insurance industry.

Laying the foundation for a thriving resilience economy

We believe that, working together, we can accelerate the creation of a thriving resilience economy that creates jobs in land management, sciences, climate smart biomass industries, and natural climate solutions. Our goal is to create enduring support for conservation and cultivation of climate resilient communities and landscapes around the world – for current and future generations.
